I started my walking program in February 01 2011. I weighed about 175 pounds about 85 kg. I am 37 years old and decided that I needed to something about it. I started with a easy goal in mind namely complete 1 to 2 miles in one day. The first day I did a moderate 1.5 miles. My legs were begging me to stop when I completed the walk. The speed that I walked was about 20 minutes for the mile. I felt tired after the walk. My legs felt sore the next day and my calf muscles ached like hell. (Did I mention that I have had very little physical activity since I finished college when I was 23. )
The next day February 02 2011 I could feel the muscles in my thigh and calf feel stiff. I got out of bed determined to do the walk. I set out to finish 2 miles that day. But ended up doing only 1 mile as I felt very sore. I decided that it should be safe to end up doing only half the distance rather than risk injury. Turned out that I had made a wise choice.
On February 03 2011 I did not go out to do my walk since I wanted to eliminate any chance of injury. My fears were just in my mind as latter that day my friend explained to me that my soreness is normal and should not be a reason to not continue my walks.
February 04 2011 I was feeling much better. I put on my sneakers at 6:15 in the morning and decided to trek out. To my surprise I found that my legs started limbering out once I started to take the first few steps and the soreness in my legs were replaced by a feeling a activity. This pushed me and I ended up doing 2 and half miles that day and I completed that in about 45 minutes.
On that night I did feel a lot more sore than my first night out but I had a good feeling that I had completed something good.
Thought for the day
Will continue to write more and help at least one more person to become more healthy by sharing my experience with walking.
